Shot in the Dark... Anyone have rocker arm bolts?

I sheared a bolt reinstalling the rocker arms.

Looks like it's 3-5 business days ordered unless I drive to Arlington summit store.  Anyone close to Richardson/Dallas have a set of solid rocker arms they can part with?

Anything 87-93 5.0 would work.

thanks

Use torque wrench?   Tighten it with that valve on cam basecircle?

Re: Shot in the Dark... Anyone have rocker arm bolts?

I used a torque wrench, 25 ft-lbs.

bolt didn't quite break but it has a half visible crack and one of the threads is all gummed up.  I ordered a new set of 16.  Best not to risk it.

Re: Shot in the Dark... Anyone have rocker arm bolts?

Having done the same thing you know why I hate these puny 5/16" bolts and prefer a 3/8" stud.

Re: Shot in the Dark... Anyone have rocker arm bolts?

Don't them "shivel-lay"   3/8" rocker bolts work in the 5/16" bolts place?!! Seems 'I heard" they will interchange!!
At any rate......ARP bolts would be a GREAT upgrade.

Yes, once you mill the pedestals, enlarge, and retap the holes

As I recall, the torque spec in only about 13-15 lb/ft

Did you get your specs from Bearing Bob?

Re: Shot in the Dark... Anyone have rocker arm bolts?

Ok, they are up to 25 lb/ft.  I should stop quoting numbers if I don’t use them very often.   I gotta go back to my universal torque setting:  tighten until right before it breaks.  Never failed with that one...

I think that's called Torque To Yield.

Re: Shot in the Dark... Anyone have rocker arm bolts?

The torque spec chart from LMR has them at 18-25 ft-lbs.

https://lmr.com/products/mustang-50-engine-torque-specs-fox-body

I probably dial it back to 22 ft-lbs.  I'm also replacing all the bolts.  Surprising a bolt would break of this size but then again these have had constant load and under going consistent vibration for over 30 years.  I've taken them on and off at least 3 times myself.  Oh well, slight delay but moving forward.

Re: Shot in the Dark... Anyone have rocker arm bolts?

In my experience what causes them to fail is trying to torque them down on a valve that wants to be open.  Even if you didn't do it ever, what did the previous owner/mechanic do?  Then age factors in too.  Most sources would not recommend reusing a highly stressed fastener more than 3-5 times.  This is why I don't reuse head or main bolts in an engine build.  $200 for ARP bolts is cheap insurance compared to the catastrophic failure and ensuing cost if one of them lets go.
