    Strange Differential Vent

    I have a Strange housing in my car.  One of the things on my "to do" list was to install a hose on the vent tube because it looked as if Strange just capped the vent tube. I was looking at vent tubes and breathers last night and followed a link to Strange's website and found this vent, which is what is installed on my rear housing.

    Looking at it and reading the description, it looks like that is the complete unit and that they don't intend for you to put a tube on top of the vent.

    Has anyone used this type of vent?  Should I run this as is or would you remove and replace with a more traditional vent tube/breather set up?

    Don't know butt..................it looks like this is just a vent with a cap on it to keep dirt from entering the vent. Don't you think so?!

    If you want it to look more vintage you could take that off and replace it with an open fitting and run a hose from the fitting to a higher point under the car!
    You could give it the NASCAR "look" and attach a large filter on the end of the hose and mount it somewhere accessible  under the car or inside the cabin!!

    Yup, it's definitely a cap to keep dirt out. But the cap is crimped on the tube, if floats around up and down but the cap can't be removed without destroying the cap, which makes me think they intend for you to run it as is.

    What you have is fine. I can’t say that one will function better than the other. It’s a matter of choice if you want to swap it out to a hose.

    Unless you plan on doing high water crossings, you should be fine.

    Ford changed to that style vent on truck rear ends way back when.  I would think it is better because it acts like a check valve when the oil is in cool-down phase, keeping dirt out, to some extent.  The cool down creates a vacuum that tries to suck stuff back inside. But it easily exhausts heated air.

    Money you enjoy wasting is NOT wasted money... unless your wife finds out.

    Its like the vent Ford used on all the Fox cars.  Like Nos681 said, if you aren't going to submerge the rear it will work just fine.
