Ran errands with the ‘65 today after work.
Felt great to drive it...until the remanufactured power steering pump failed.
Appears the front bearing failed and started leaking.
Was a bit bummed, wasn’t even mad about it.
My lovely wife came out to help in her 79 F150 and we just hung out on tailgate together waiting for the tow truck to show up.
Funny part about it...I was less than 2.5 miles to old house (on the same road old house is located... all uphill too) and about another 2.25 to our recently purchased home. Yeah, still moving a little at a time.
I’ve had several roadside “pit stops” over the years.
Technically, this was the second tow due to break down in 29 years.

Looking at it and having that alone time on the tailgate priceless. The car easy fix. Glad to see you out and about with it

Now's a good time to save weight and get rid of that power steering stuff.
😁

Not quite yet guys.
I’d like to try it before I commit to that route.
I already tried the 16:1 just not the EPAS on a classic Mustang.
I’m still not sold on EPAS yet.
If I had my tools and a spare pump in the trunk or a short belt to bypass the pump, I would have done it.
Now I have a couple of items to my travel list besides a spare wheel hub with new bearings.😜
My wife got to find out what 16:1 manual steering and wide front tires is like while repositioning car on concrete garage floor while young man from towing company and I pushed.🤣🤣🤣
My wife’s (Dianne) statement as she walked up to the car...”Well...apparently Died Happy!” 😂😂😂
We definitely enjoyed the down time yesterday.

I must be very lucky. First tow was in 2018. That's 53 years; over 500,000 miles; and 3 coast to coast round trips. The brand new in-line fuel pump clogged after fuel injection was put in.

Update
Yesterday after work installed different brand replacement remanufactured pump, bleed, and drove less than 5 miles on way to local drive-in about 30 miles away...I was already running late to meet the guys.
This time, the original ‘92 pulley came completely off and split belt in half.
In my rush, I didn’t inspect the pulley well enough.
BRIGHT SIDE...my radiator was spared and only casualty was the belt and some paint😂.
As my backup travel plan after last Friday, I also had a short belt to bypass p/s pump.
Guess what, I installed it and continued to the drive-in for dinner.
Looked at the p/s pump and apparently no damage or leaks, thankfully I had the sense to stop...this time.
Question I have, can this pulley be repaired or just buy a new one? Thanks guys.
BTW, my wife thought I was pulling her leg when I told her I was broke down near home again.🥴

IMO, buy new...cheap enough. And press on with O'Reilies or Auto Zoo rental tool. I'd also make sure that shaft on that rebuilt pump isn't undersized.
