I gotta start searching the background of my pics for incriminating evidence before Lt Dan busts me š
If y'all have ever seen RV6's 67, you know it's a clean machine. So I don't know why I'm impressed that the 62k mile 1987 944 turbo is cleaner than a Safeway chicken. If the odometer was rolled back to 10k miles the condition would support it. Pristine is a pretty good description of it.
50 50 spinner
To make this Mustang related, after I dropped off the 944 at my mechanic's place, oops I mean my brother's place, I drug home his 65 C code coupe that's been in the family since new, that we're putting together for another brother who lives in Round Rock, and owned it in his high school years.

Any pictures of the coupeā ? š
No pictures, didnāt happen!š¤£
Have to admit, a ladle above the 944 was āout of placeā.
There was no supporting evidence of fishing...from what I saw.š¤
Better check the VIN...sounds like you stole it.š
Very nice ride.

That 6 banger of which you speak is in fact a 4 banger. And since it has to be smog checked, it wouldn't pass the visual part of the test with something from Henry in there.

Hey, I'm right there with you John. I didn't know Porch made a four cylinder.
Offline
Porsche made plenty of 4 cylinders.Ā Still making them in fact.Ā The Macan, Caymna, and Boxster can all be had with a 4.Ā

Schnitzel anyone?

Well... the good news is it didn't blow a head gasket. But a blown head gasket would've been good news, as its got a cracked cylinder wall. Used short blocks are rare west of the Mississippi, new pistons are $400...each.

OUCH!

Holy craptunia. Whoda thunk? Me think they be sleeves. Place in OK does a lot of 951 work and is where I always ordered parts from. In my liquid state I can't remember their URL. Later.

Is sleeving that one hole a possibility?
Corrected spelling!!

Yeah, I'd look into sleeving it if possible.Ā I'd also try Mahle direct, as they were almost certainly the OEM piston supplier.Ā Here's a link to their website:
Contact info for their North American operation is at the bottom.Ā I've had nothing but good experiences with them over the years.Ā

Rennlist looks to be a website forum that has some good info.
Copied some replies to a guy with the same damage as me:
most people don't know that the Alusil on our blocks is not just a "coating" (entire block is made from Alusil).
Replacing the engine with a used engine will be far cheaper than repairing this one.
Why spend tons of money on a cracked block? These blocks are the same from 1985.5 to 1988 NA or turbo.
I mentioned the possibility of the use of a cylinder kit in post #22 aka "wet sleeve" and it's cost prohibitive nature of such a kit. With new pistons, rings, machine shop work, etc. It is a minimum $3000+ solution to a $200 problem.

A couple of complete engines for sale on this web site, in Canada though. US Canada exchange rate is good. Until they are cracked open no way of knowing the condition.

Sorry Bob, I guess my main bearings look pretty good now.Ā Butt (TS&T) why was the compression down in two cylinders?

I'm pretty sure the only thing I'd put chivy into would be a trash dumpster.

Why? At this point since the block won't be reused, I'm not sure it matters. But we don't know for sure at this juncture. This just came to mind, it could be related to the guy doing the compression checkš

BMW did the same thing and had the same issues with some of their engines as I recall.Ā Its' why unfortunately the 840/850s are hard to find in good running shape at a reasonable price.
I must say though, that SBF swap is starting to sound quite appealing...

REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
