Brake Light Socket for 67

I am in need of a brake light socket for the the 67 coupe. What have yall found for new stuff and how has it worked?

The results from a google search shows a Dorman unit with bad reviews. And one from American Autowire with good reviews for use on a Chevy!! Looking at the Autowire page, that part fits a host of Chevy's, but no Ford's listed.

Re: Brake Light Socket for 67

For 1157 bulbs, I understand that Doman #85825 is the answer.
(I understand that your Google search did not produce good feedback)
You might try "Mustang Project" although I'm not sure they offer replacement sockets.

Re: Brake Light Socket for 67

Thanks Bob. It was Dorman =24px85860 that came up for me. The O'reilly's down the street shows to have one on the shelf. I will go take a look at it. Dorman 85825 looks like the one listed on CJ's website. It was a strike out on O'reilly's web site. It does show up at Summit though as a special order.

Re: Brake Light Socket for 67

Hey John.......I installed TWO sockets per side on my 66! I used the one from Dorman. Did a little "fancy war'in" and now my lights are..........well.............twice as bright!
I used one LED bulb and one filament kind (so my cruise control would work!)
I sprayed the inside of each light housing white and it really makes a nice difference.
Lots cheaper than switching to LED too!

I have an article on replacing those on a 66.  Should be same. Check webpage.

I might do this at some point when everything else on the car  is finished.

I forgot about the article and was standing there when you told MochaMan the same thing. It also showed the same part number Bob E had.

Dan, those are cool, but at $195 a set, I will have to stick with 1157's. Ain't you an electronics guru......you could amke those really easy, right????

I ordered to of the 85825's from Amazon with a be here Friday deliver that changed to Oct 14th after the purchase. So, I played with the socket I have and think I "fixed it" enough to get me by till the new ones arrive.

I was hoping Gary @RV6 would chime in. Word has it he added two LEDs with a diode to each bucket. C'mon Gary, edumicate us.

Re: Brake Light Socket for 67

Word has it wrong, although I did modify my taillights with this kit from Scott Drake

I wanted brighter taillights and I'm not a fan of LED as I like the soft on/off of incandescent bulbs over the harshness of LED's. Not wanting to cut up the original harness I added 1157 pigtails to the SD 3 light conversion allowing me to plug them into the original socket. I got the brightness I wanted along with some unintended consequences; I burned up the brake light and turn signal switches before finally installing relays.

This looks neat. I bet those things are blinding!!!

I can go way far down the rabbit hole with this. Buy this for $50 with tax and shipping, 6 LED bulbs for $30 to &60 depending on which one should prevent the need for relays. about $15 for the 1157 pigtails. Then spend an afternoon installing all of it. I wonder what this does for the flasher???

The relays, just like LED's, don't produce enough load to make the flasher work, but the front turn signals do produce sufficient load to make it all work, at least on my car. When I did the AC install this past winter I also installed headlight and horn relays. When all was said and done the turn signals did not work. Once I plugged the front signal lights back into the harness they worked.
