While the block is being serviced i went ahead and replaced the frontend wiring, painted the inside of the engine bay and powder coated most everything I could. Now I have removed all the dreadful undercoating from under the hood and I am preparing for color. I do have 1 question, did ford use redish orange parts because under the hinges of the hood it was not the color of the car? maybe the car had the hood replaced at one time, like when it got painted in the 80s.

well the car is Rangoon red but it was definitely a lighter red like poppy. All good as we are working on the spray out as we speak so I will have a sample by weeks end. i trust my painter

My understanding is that a lot of the vehicle manufacturers back then would mix leftover top coat paint into the primer to reduce waste and save money. I've read about several top end restorations where they discovered that the primer overspray in some areas had goofy colors in it that were nothing like the color of the car.
Ford also did use a red oxide primer on a lot of stuff. It would have been more of a dark red than an orange when originally shot, but 50+ years may have had some effect on it.

Well tonight my painter gave me his Ditzler paint sample book, each one has a hole in it so it should be close. He told me to look at it with different lights. Shop has 6000K LEDs well as pr ditzlers ford code J it is not the color and that could be when it was repainted in the 80s. So sofar I have 3 on 3 different pages, tomorrow I will look under outdoor light and see what I come up with.
We are also playing with red and 40 years, i just need to be close

update today,
paint color sample came in very close. he is going to tweak it just a tad? and we are ready to take it to the paint booth next week. Car has aged a lot in the last 40 years so "J" Rangoon red is not correct anymore. I cant wait. then motor comes back next month. All the parts are powder coated or painted now.
