Pressed in studs

Figured I could share my experience with stock pressed in studs and 270/280 mild RV cam.
I don’t recall all details with cam, especially the lift.

If you notice the studs on far right were both replaced...one of them broke while just idling through town.
It back fired through carb at higher rpm’s.

A couple of years later...3 of them pulled out enough to bend valves...sounded like a sick lawnmower afterwards.
I threw away the cam a couple of years ago,..20 something year’s later...never got the specs off cam.
I think it was an Erson cam, nothing wrong with it, heads weren’t up to the task.

And once they finally pull all the way out, the water jacket is exposed to flood the engine!

Should never use press-in with a performance cam or valve springs.

I guess alot of us have learned that one the hard way!


Money you enjoy wasting is NOT wasted money... unless your wife finds out.

I wouldn't use pressed in studs with anything.  I've seen them fail too much in stock engines.  Mileage is a big killer for them too.  I've seen several trucks get up in the 200k range and a stud lets go.  This was a shameful cost cutting measure on the part of the OEMs.
