here is the problem, the brace between the frame rails that ties the front frame rails together, is in the way of the shifter. on the t5. to get the trans in the car, the top of that brace would have to be cut out of the car. things l've considered, the tail shaft out of a S10 that had a t5 in it. not sure about what all is involved in that....yet. one unknown is will it still give me room to get theT5 in the car
cut out the brace and build what I need to put another brace in the car either front or to the rear of the factory brace.
any ideas would be appreciated

I had to notch the brace in my Galaxie when I added the T5. Here is some info on the S10 tail housing.

That was gonna be my question....... how close to the hole (in the floorboard) does the T-5 shifter land? Or does the Falcon have a hole in its floor?!
S-10 tailshaft is suppose to bolt right on a T-5 and be several inches forward of its normal position.
A lot of those guys with T-buckets with flathead engines do this swap to move the shifter to a more forward position.

decided to remove the brace that is the offending brace. since I put I subframe connectors I am going to make my own brace and incorporate the trans. mount into it and it will bolt to the subframe connectors. just not in favor of the s 10 mod, and for the $300. or so bucks I very well have everything on hand to do the new brace with.

The S10 tailshaft requires the S10 top cover as well.
Your solution is better val.

The Falcon Project I was involved with used a T5. I'll find out what he had to do and let you know. I'm sure he DID NOT cut the tunnel support.

from what I've been reading the square bodies have to be cut, I heard one story of a round body that didn't have to be.

t5 up date in my 64 falcon, finally managed to get the t5 in my falcon, after the third attempt. very tight trans. tunnel. was able to put the drive shaft in the car while the car was on jack stands. the jack stands were under the rear axel what would simulate the car sitting on the ground. the drive shaft has about an 1 1/4" before it hits the extended rubber on the seal. starter bolted up to the t5 bell housing as it did with the t10.
still working on the MS cable clutch set up, which has been a challenge, but then this whole conversion has been that challenge. one thing I do enjoy is fabricating.
the last thing to do is to make a trans. bracket that will also double as a support structure that will tie in the frame rails. the original one had to be removed due to the t5 occupying that space and it being removed
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
