Has anyone replace hood springs with struts?? 1967-1968

Has anyone replaced their hood springs with a strut setup? Year is 1967-1968. Have not found a kit available.

Ouch, and i don't think that design lowers the load on the inner fender.

Really i just want to remove the spring, and add a bracket with ball stud where the bolts go into the hood. Just put some Redline Tech on my focus and they work great.

Cruise the junkyard.

Many of the ball studs just bolt onto hood and body.
Some attached to a bracket too.
May want to find a vehicle that has a heavier hood or hatchback if using steel hood on Mustang.
Auto parts stores have them available in different lengths too.

Sure beats $725...although they are pretty.

I replaced my trunk springs with struts, worked out just fine no kit involve.  I dealt with a company that specializes in struts and mounts.  They told me exactly how to go about this process.  I'll think about this and give you the name of the company when I remember it!!

I have a setup from Redline Tuning on one of my projects.

You could likely piece together a kit to fit your year.

Re: Has anyone replace hood springs with struts?? 1967-1968

I've had several cars with struts for the hood.  Every one of them had failures within 2-5 years.  and new ones were rather expensive.  I usually carried a stick in the trunk to hold the hood until I could get a new strut.

I'll pass on doing it on mine.  My hood springs have lasted 50 years.

It is, though, an intriging idea.
