clutch

I'm am currently installing an FE in a '67coupe complete with toploader 4 speed, My question is which is better hydraulic or cable clutch actuators Daze has hydraulics, and MS has the cable, both look sound to me but what are the pros and cons for each set-up and has anyone done this to an old Iron FE bell housing? The cable sounds cleaner just because theres no fluid involved but the hardware install more complex.

Re: clutch

I ordered the Hydraulic Clutch kit from Modern Driveline w/ the external slave.  Haven't gotten it installed yet, still trying to find help actually. (I'm in Dallas for anyone out there)

I haven't heard much complaints from either setup.  The internally slave (goes inside the bellhousing) for the hydraulic clutch setup is a harder install and required dropping the transmission if there is any service required.  Basic venefit, far as I can tell, is that there is no adjustment required as the clutch wears and the feel is more modern.

The MS setup seems to get a lot of praise.  Haven't heard any negatives about it.  One thing to consider is whether or not you eventually want to go to power brakes.  If so, you should carefully choose your setup.  That and custom headers, depending on the setup you might get some interference.  Generally speaking, the hydraulic clutch is considered an 'upgrade'.  Hardcore traditional guys might disagree.

Re: clutch

I have cars with both the MS set-up and a hydraulic set-up. Both work fine. The cable MS set-up is easier to get to work well since you don't have to bleed a cable. The Cable also allows some easy adjustment of pedal position that is a little more difficult with the normal hydraulic system. I road race, so pedal position is important for the toe/heel manuvers that are required.

Re: clutch

I gave a 428 in my 68, I did a lot of research and learned that it is almost impossible to use a cable clutch system. I used a Tilton 6000 hydraulic slave. I now hear that Mcleod has modified their design and is used by a lot if reliable tranny shops including Standard Transmission in Fort Worth.
