Bought a kit from CPP total price $690 they said works with original pitman arm. Kit came and the pitman arm didn't fit. Called on Saturday no help, had to call back Monday. Monday they said I could purchase a remake pitman arm $90 or send in back on my dime. This add was on E-bay and I called them to ask a question and ended up purchasing on the phone with VISA. Should have used E-bay and paypal, I would have had some protection. I bought the pitmam arm. The kit finally went in, with a little help from a BFH on the shock tower. Right now it seems to work well but can't road test yet. It uses a 13.7 to1 box and I think the pump and bracket is a Borgeson. I don't feel if an add says the original pitman arm works that I should have to pay to return the kit or purchase the arm. They would not even work with me on the price of the arm, not even give me free shipping on that. Don't think I'll purchase there anymore, take this for what its worth.
This was the reader digest version, I had more typed up and bumped something on the key board, wiped it all out. Didn't feel like retyping it all.

So...what exactly did you buy? You state that you think the pump and bracket is Borgeson so I assume you bought a Borg integral PS kit. I installed a Borg box and gave it quick road test before I disassembled the car for paint. It has absolutley no center slop but also didn't feel like it has a lot of "return to center" either.
When the the car goes back on the road I will do whatever to get more caster which will help the center-return.
Keep us posted when you get to test it. There are a few on here who have used the Borg box and I think the opinions, so far, are mixed.
I bought mine from CJ and was carefull to specify the box with the proper shaft size. Our 66 had a 68 box in it so I ordered the 1 1/8 shaft. The PS pitman arm I had worked perfectly.

Though I do ope you don't need it. Your VISA, gives you way more protection than PP/ebay.
If it comes down to it, call VISA register a complaint, send the gear back. Your VISA will credit the money back to you while investigtion continues. PP/ebay doesnt come close. I do all my PP on my MasterCard or VISA instead of bank account for just that very reason. Your card company will work for you PP/ebay work for themselves.

Bob no it is not a Borgeson Kit but the pump and bracket came in a different box and it had instructions for Borgeson. If you type these numbers in E-bay search you can see it. (380637739358) Tubo I call my credit union and asked if I have any recourse and they said no. They would cover things like a fraudulent charge. Right now I seem to have it working, guess I was just venting on how CPP handled things

Definitely post feeback on Ebay, also doesn't Ebay have something like a dispute resolution process?

Steve I do want you to know I did hesitate from buying from CPP after your post. I was waiting on CJ Pony to run their sale on the Borgeson Kit, they run 15% off sometimes. Then CPP ran 5% off what I thought was a good price. I just wanted to get this done so I could move foward, so I took the chance and boughtfrom CPP. The worst part CJ Pony run their sale 2 weeks after I ordered this one. Not only that MS put up a manual rack for $300, I would have been happy with that. Just didn't want you to think your post fell on deaf ears

We'll I hope you get it working properly so your back on the road. I know for me I lost 3 months of prime time driving my stang waiting for them to get them my Lower Control Arms back from them. After that experience I pulled there stuff off and sold it.

I am rebuilding a 67 Mustang - 289- c4- w power steering. Question is what are my options on the steering replacement. Can I convert to a manual steering system easly, replace with a manual rack and pinion, or just relpace the original power steering parts. The car has a new power steering pump but all of the linkage, pitman arm etc and slave pump needs replacing. Anyone have any recommendations on what would the less expensive and what would require less modification?

I installed the cpp setup. Must have been an eBay mistake when they set up the auction, as they're near me... I bought my kit in person and they all know that the pitman arm needs to be swapped out.
This box has done amazing quality. I spent under $600 out the door, and used a fox power steering pump. It's 13.6 quick ratio and feels as tight as rack and pinion. Its worked out so well my brother and two friends have bought the kit. Same quality as Borgeson but much less price wise.
Here are a couple of videos of my cpp setup

Welcome to the best place on the web, Billy.
We drove our 66 HT with rebuilt stock PS running on a 5.0 pump and custom hoses for nearly 16k miles. It worked fine but had quite a bit of slop on center. I adjusted the box but apparently not correctly...hence, the slop. Didn't find this out until I traded the box to MS and he adjusted it correctly and said...no more slop. We live and learn.
If you are going to keep the car relatively stock, there is nothing wrong with a PROPERLY SET UP stock PS system. A lot of guys have trouble with leaks but our's never leaked a drop. If you rebuild the control valve and cyl. Use new hoses...I married two new 5.0 hoses with two new stock 66 hoses..., good pump, properly adjusted or rebuilt steering box, and a PROPER power steering idler arm (there is a difference with the manual arm), and a good alignment with Daze's recommeanded settings, I think you might be happy for quite a while. This would likely be your most reasonable (cheapest) way to go.
I presume by "slave pump" you mean the assist cylinder.

Welcome
I have a 67 coupe that I put a Unisteer manual rack in. Paid around 750 - 800 for it a couple of years ago. I really like the way the car drives going down the road, not so much when parking. Probably because of the 13" steering wheel I have. If you keep the stock steering wheel it would probably help with the parking. I have a 302 in mine.

Hey Walt;
BillyF somehow resurected this nearly two year old post of yours so I'll ask....were you ever able to road test and de-kink any issues with your CPP box?

Yea BB it has been road tested, but just short drives up and down the road. As Jeremy said, I think it's a real nice up grade for someone with worn out steering. "Jkordzi" has a do it yourself upgrade on the "Tips and how to" page (page 2). He used the same steering box as the CCP kit uses.

it's a wonder we got as much stuff done as we did. I ran into some of the same problems and having to return stuff that wasn't any good.

we practically deserve a congratulations and standing ovation from the selling company Everytime we get something done the way things are these days hehehehe

While their costumer service obviously sucks, their product is top notch. I did my research before hand, and knew exactly what I needed. I had 0 problems, saved a ton of cash, and couldn't be happier.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
