Fired the Galaxie up this morning and ran to the hardware store. It was a little hard to start but I figured it was a fuel issue as I had not driven it in about a week. Got to the store but when I came out and went to start it, it fired right off then died. Tried again, same thing. I was still thinking fuel but after several cranks I was smelling fuel so I knew that wasn't it. Then it occurred to me "fires right up on start and dies on run", the ignition switch must be bad. I wanted to get it home so I started undoing wires to find the keyed power source going to the MSD box so I could jump it directly to 12V (MSD 6a driven by a Duraspark distributor) I spent about 15 minutes undoing my loom and then realized "had the same problem at home but got it running after a few false starts" SOOO I went to the ignition switch and fired it up but then didn't release the key but just turned it towards run enough to get the starter to stop. Car kept running and I drove it home. New switch is on order and I have a loom to re-tape.

At least your brain was working enough to remember the fix. As Rosanne Rosanna Danna used to say, it's always something.

The older I get the longer it takes for that light bulb to come on. As long as it keeps coming on I guess I'm OK. Good to hear you figured it out.

This is why with any spark box I've always wired it with connectors so I could easily bypass it or reroute power to it. The one thing I hate trying to repair on the side of the road is wiring, because I spend so much timer on it making it neat.

I am always happy when someone can figure out a problem and get their car underway.
Congrats on job well done.
