T 'was reading some posts about crank 'in and bad'drez and such.
I admit it.....I CHEAT!
Since I/we hafta use this crabby old gasa-hole fuel that evaporates so easily OR when the old hot rod hasn't been crunk in several days.....I Cheat by spraying some carb cleaner OR Brakleen(I love this stuff) down my throat! (Carb throat that is!)
Cold engine fires right up and with a little feathering of the gas peddle it stays running until the carb bowl is full and everything is normal.
Saves the battery.....saves the starter....saves me from flooding it....saves-saves-saves!!

Over time, I think an electric choke would be the real money (and time) saver.

That is the biggest reason that I installed an electric fuel pump with an on/off switch. The other reason was that it runs out of gas at full throttle in the lower gears. I got tired of taking the air filter off and on.

My mild 289/flat top pistons/c9 heads/electric choke Edie/ canister filter style fuel pump….2 pumps was the normal.
I had the Performer 289 cam for street driven car.
I would check/adjust your fuel delivery system and/or ignition.
Gotta remember when seasons change, minor adjustments might be required…Xcept you southern folk.

Been thinking about doing that too. Can you just put it in line with everything else or do you need some kind of bypass?

I just let them crank away. The battery needs the exercise...
Besides my theory is, it get all the oil in just the right places before things gets serious...

A couple of pumps, six revolutions and she lights off - just like an old round engine. Mr. Edelbrock makes a good carb.

I also installed an electric inline fuel pump that I connected to a momentary switch. I hold the button a few seconds or longer depending on when I ran the car last before cranking. Works great. Inline pumps like the one below are pass through so they are simple to install and don't interfere with the normal mechanical pump.
