t5 input shaft shims

Hello friends , while i'm working on clutch i had time to take a look to t5 input shaft freeplay . Have seen a video explaining that is no good to have  freeplay on shaft and cause vibration . As i found that's move too much for my know how , i would like to ask  " how much freeplay should be " or  " no freeplay " is also acceptable . It was enough add 1 shim to have it settle very well without ANY freeplay ,  is not blocked and  i can rotate with some force on shaft .
How i can be sure  to do not exceed with shim ? there some reference about ?   .020 was already in it and add .007
For me is close enough without being too much pressed in . is firm with no moves left /right .
Do you think is correct or i have to lay some little freeplay on input shaft          ?
Thanks !

Re: t5 input shaft shims

You have to measure the endplay with a dial indicator.  Factory spec is like 0.003-0.001" of play.  I set them up 0.001-0.003" preloaded.  Without measuring though you're just guessing at shim thickness, and 0.003" is about the thickness of a human hair.  These are tiny changes, and too tight will burn up the bearings.
