    Carburetor search continues my 570 was trashed

    What big differences would I see if I put a Holley Street Avenger 670 on the 302 roller I am building will basically be a GT engine after the piston change with a bigger cam and GT40P heads. What carbs are yall running on similar engine combos?

    I have that exact  670  carb on my 331, IMO too big for your build.
    I have heard many good things about Summits Street and Strip M 2008 500 carb, a clone of arguably the best carb ever made, the Autolite 4100.
    Keep the Holly 570

    The  1.08 4100 was rated at 480 cam.

    I’d keep the 570 Holley and just add an electric choke.
    Very easy to do.

    I have a buddy who is running an  Edelbrock AVS2 carb on his 383 Chev-ro-let.
    Granted he has the 670 cfm model with manual choke, it runs as if it was EFI.
    Throttle response is instant.

    I had an Edelbrock 1406 (600 cfm) on my 289 (0.030), still think it was too big.

    I put that Summit 500 on Jose’s 5.0 with an Explorer cam.  It started up on first touch of the key. All I had to do was bump the idle speed up a bit. No other setting changes.  Runs great.
    Highly recommended.

    Money you enjoy wasting is NOT wasted money... unless your wife finds out.

    I would stick in that under 600cfm range for the carb.  If what you have worked well on the previous engine and you already know how to tune it I'd see no reason to change.  Otherwise guys rave about the Summit carb, and a 500 Edelbrock is also a solid choice.

    Agreed.  On a 300 inch engine 500 cfm is about perfect unless you plan on twisting it over 6K a lot.  500 will give easiest tuning, best MPG, and great throttle response.  That's probably why Ford used the 480 on the 289.

    Billy, I have the Summit 500cfm on my 302 after having a 570 Street Avenger. Easy to install and the best part, no fuel leaks on the intake. Throttle response is great too.
    Use a spacer under the carb instead of the thick gasket that comes with it. The accelerator pump won't clear the intake manifold...

    Good, fast or cheap. Pick any two...

    Why did you change from 570 to 500?

    It's an 89 crown vic roller 5.0 block .030 over with flattop pistons. Iron gt40 heads, mustang gt 5.0 roller cam. Weiand street warrior intake and the summit 500 carb. Pertronix 3 in the factory  distributor. Starts easy and runs very well. Built it myself and it now has over 30k on it. I'm happy with it.

    The car is like yours but I have a c4 automatic.

    Good, fast or cheap. Pick any two...

    Sounds like same engine mine will be a 98 explorer engine standard bore with flat top pistons and a bigger cam GT40P heads and petronix III distributor. What trans and rear gears are yu running?

    I hear that these are close to the original Autolite 4100's. What is your take on this MS?

    It's probably already been said Billy, but I reckon that would be too big a carburettor.
    I have a 289 and it has the original Autolite 4100 on it, which I think is about 480cfm. Years ago Jon from Pony Carbs told me to trust the Autolite for mine and I'm glad I did. My car runs great and last time I checked the mpg, I am getting about 21 mpg and that is with a 4 speed.
    Maybe something around 500cfm would suit you better?

    Am  I the 'only' one who remembers the hop-up advice in the 60's when these SBF engines first came on the scene?!!!
    ALL the magazine  tech guys recommended "high-rise" intakes and  600 CFM carb & headers as the first thing young guys should do for their Mustang/Falcons!!
    ABDFI...........a famous SBF guy once said!

    The 600 was the smallest street Holley, wasn’t it?

    The million dollar question is did they actually result in any more horsepower, or did they just make it sound better and act more finicky so the owner assumed it must be faster?

    I have the summit racing 600cfm carburetor and have been really happy with it.  When its cold a couple of pumps and it fires off.  No bogging or hesitation when its cold.  When its warm I have to hold it to the floor until it pops off and let off the pedal. It works really well and runs great with my 302.
