Re: Cobra oval air filter elements. - K&N version

I purchased this oval breather off an add I saw on Facebook Marketplace  and I have noticed it doesn’t have all the holes drilled and has a very ruff finish . May be a replica or a prototype. Not really sure

Re: Cobra oval air filter elements. - K&N version

It does look pretty rough, suggest maybe cleaning up a section and painting that section with wrinkle finish paint, see how it looks and go from there.

Re: Cobra oval air filter elements. - K&N version

When I bought mine on Ebay I was shocked at how heavy it was.  It had to weigh as much or more as the carburetor.

Re: Cobra oval air filter elements. - K&N version

My oval air cleaner arrived this week. In the end, I went with the plain type air cleaner and added an emblem to the front. At this stage, I think I will keep it black as it looks more original and kind of matches the top on my console.
It may not be everyone's style, but I think the emblem on the air cleaner suits my car without the cobra accessories.

I like it, I like a car to be personalized, too many cars that are “ well they didn’t come from the factory like that”
That stamped metal wing nut has got to go!

Re: Cobra oval air filter elements. - K&N version

I did this test on Jose’s 65 fastback (5.0 using 66 engine mounts and a Performer style ebay intake)
We just stuck an extra 2” filter on top. I figured if the hood would close like that, a 3” air cleaner filter would certainly work.  Looks like a 3” would fit his with no problem, and in my opinion would look better than the thin one he has on it.

The blue play-doh on top shows it barely clears with 4” of filter on it.

Hey, Rudi, that is a factory style wingnut. But the extra length of the wingnut rod DOES have to go!!!  Unless he is saving it to install a 3” filter in there,…

Billy, does your dachshund breathe better in that carrier with the Cobra filter mounted on top?  I think that looks kind of cool!!!  Maybe Coco needs one, too.

Re: Cobra oval air filter elements. - K&N version

The extra long air cleaner stud is only temporary. I've ordered another air cleaner stud, to cut and make shorter.
I may also order the 3" tall filter as it seems to look as though it would fit.
I'm still undecided on the wing nut...
