    Window and Door Crank Handles

    Hello all:
    1965 Mustang, 200ci, manual, standard interior. I want to convert from the clip on window cranks and door handle to the screw on type. I think I have the pre-March 1965 door style. Lots of questions. Does anyone know if the top of the shaft as in the attached picture  comes off to expose the screw in threads as in the late 1965 screw on style and if so how to take it off?. The quarter rear window handles seem to have a small allen at the base. I think I could get away with using them in the front - but has anyone seen any door handles that attach by an allen at the base?

    If none of that works, I think I have to replace the window regulator to late 1965 and the same with the door crank operator. I am assuming that the late 1965 regulator and door crank operator are en exact swap for the early year hardware? Is that correct.

    Any other recommendations would be appreciated.

    No picture attached.  However, the 65 handles have a clip on the inside of the door handle (and window crank) that one must push in the door panel to get behind to remove the clip (that will release the handle, or window crank).  To install, the clip can be inserted prior to installation and will snap over the shaft w/o having to manipulate the door panel.  These 65 shafts do mot have the threaded area in the shaft that the 66 handles use to hold the handle/window crank in place.
    To my knowledge the 65 & 66 door mechanisms/window cranks are interchangeable.
    I replaced the door handles and window cranks for my 65 (with clips) that came with an Allen head screw that hold them in place to the side of the shaft.  Check out some of the Mustang parts websites.

    65 Fastback, 351W, 5-speed, 4 wheel discs, 9" rear,  R&C Front End.

    Thanks. I think I need to replace the window regulator and the door latch shaft with the screw in handle type. I;ll try to attached the picture again but I think the early year 1965 Mustang did not come with the hardware for a screw in - only the clip. Since I will have the door apart - easy to do.

    Be aware pony door panels require a different mechanism with a longer shaft than the standard door panels use.

    Money you enjoy wasting is NOT wasted money... unless your wife finds out.

    No picture and...........not sure of the question!
    I THINK you need to get 66 window crank assemblys (and doors) My 66 has the threaded hole in the end of the shaft that an allen screw goes into. Same with the door.
    Coupe rear windows have a set screw that tightens onto the window crank shaft.
    pictures worth a 1000 (well you know)

     The replacement door handle I have use an allen head set screw that screws into the side of the shaft, not the end.  I installed these on the 'clip' type shaft.
    One can't just "attach" a picture.  I go through the "IGMBB" photo site.  There are several posts on this forum on how-to add pictures ... although some people have trouble anyway.
