(in waterboy voice). That's some low quality FE!
I busted my vise and had to find another in a hurry. Vises seem to be a bit hard to come by around here. I wound up getting this Irwin from Lowes, but I had to drive to get it. Yes the old vise came from hf. Yes it was cheap. It actually served me pretty well for about ten years. It replaced an old old vise that I tore the jack screw up on. This Irwin seems like it's the same casting, but one difference is it actually has a lifetime warranty on it. I figured it's the best compromise on short notice. Anyways wondering what broke the central forge? An ice cream cone! No seriously.
I ground some flat on the lug nut to give the new vise something to bite to. I had to drill off three lug nuts with one being the Mopar version of Mcgaurd lock nuts. Someone tightened them crazy. I hate it when people don't understand one uga Dugga will do on lugs.
Finally, I took the lug nut tool and milled the cribleys off with the hope that there is enough meat left to remove the other three. That is how my week is going!

I have one of those large cheap vises with the head that flips over to hold pipes. I bought it in the mid to late '80s. Originally it had a smooth finish that started chipping off with enthusiastic use over the years. The chips exposed body filler underneath the paint. About 15 years ago I attacked it with some aggressive wire brushes, etc. to remove all of the body filler to expose the actual metal vise underneath. After cleaning it, I gave it a new coat of paint. I've always used it as roughly as the task required and it is still serving me without complaints. I hope you get the same from your new Irwin vise.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
