Window Tinting

I'm not sure that I will do this, but am curious if any of you guys/gals have window tinting on your classic cars?

Re: Window Tinting

I had planned to tint my windows... until I drove it. With just the factory tint the visibility is terrible on a 69 sportsroof, and with my lack of awareness, no tint for me.

Re: Window Tinting

I don't seem to see the classics with tinted windows, so I wondered if most people don't tint.

Re: Window Tinting

ALL my widows are tinted except the windshield.
After many many years the rear window needs to be re-done. I guess......from running with the windows down so often.

When I was a teen (60's) I used the spray on wind tint!  I sprayed them ALL (including the windshield !)
This was before the stick-on kind AND the "limits" of how dark your windows can be.
Certainly limited my visibility butt the cool-factor....over rode good sense. (Having teenage vision certainly helped a lot too!)

Re: Window Tinting

If I can get a tint company to tint the FB rear window ( I don't care to watch that process nor hear the new cuss words) I'll have tinted windows. That back glass is like a green house....

Re: Window Tinting

They might surprise ya JKB!
My guy in Charleston....sprayed the outside of the window with soapy water.....then laid the tint film on the OUTSIDE and cut it out....then .......bingo-bango perfect fit when sticking on the inside. Guess your guy will need to lay down with feet toward the front  and place the film overhead on to window.
FUN!! Huh

Re: Window Tinting

I've never done tinting or had it applied to any of my car's (other than what came out of factory with late model cars), so it's all new to me.
Does the tinting really add the cool factor? It's probably beneficial with keeping heat out in summer.

Re: Window Tinting

Every DD I have had in the past 25 years ( 5 in total) gets a light tint courtesy of SIL who used to be in the auto trim business. I like the extra solar reduction and cutting the brightness of a sunny winter day with lots of snow cover.
I refuse to do the little red 68.

Re: Window Tinting

Yes to the window tinting. I opted for ceramic tint. It’s supposed to block the heat from coming in.

Re: Window Tinting

Fastback rear window has compound curvature and is very difficult to do. I watched a guy at a shop try to do my rear window many years ago, using a propane torch to heat the window trying to get it to fit. I left it on long enough to drive to Illinois, then had the mess taken off.
Classics don’t look good with it in my biased opinion.

Re: Window Tinting

I am considering getting window tinting, especially for the rear fastback window, and the side windows.  My 65 does not have any factory tinting and, with the A/C on, I can certainly feel the sun through the windows more so then our daily drivers with factory tinting.
I will use tinting similar to factory and state legal requirements, seems good enough and don’t want issues with the police.

Re: Window Tinting

I remember when I was stationed at Fort Hood TX in 1987 I had my 1979 Mustang Tinted.  80% on back window and 50% on the sides.   When my tour was up in TX I drove home to Wisconsin.  About 5 miles in to Wisconsin I get pulled over by a State Trooper.  He took a knife and starting peeling the side of my tint off.  He said this isn't factory and your getting fined for having it on your car.  So I had to pull it all off when I got home and have my car inspected by the trooper office when I was done.  I went through a bottle of Goo Gone to get the sticky residue off the windows...LOL

Re: Window Tinting

I have gotten stopped and received several tickets for window tint but have wrote several window tint tickets before but probably have wrote more than I have received. I mainly used it as probable cause to get inside that car and look for DUI’s,Narcotics, stolen items wanted people and kidnapped kids and people which I have found a little of all. Never wrote a window tint ticket or a seat belt ticket by themselves but did if I found other things to go along with it cause Court needed a record of why I stopped the car.

Well, it is nice to know that the police aren't much different in Georgia than in NY!

Do you know what level of tinting was installed?  If there any tinting on my 65's rear window, it isn't much.

I do not recall tinting was even available in '66, anywhere.  It was not on mine when I bought it.  It is a coupe, though.

I should have also stated that my 65 did not come with A/C.  If I remember correctly, tinted windows was a required option when A/C was installed back in those years.

Fastback rear windows were all tinted same as the factory tint installed on airconditioned cars, even if not AC equipped.  Same does not apply to coupes.   Your statement concerning coupe tint is correct. It was very light, slightly green if you put a white towel behind it. Also has label. I think it said “eye ease”?
