Seems way to big....I had a aftermarket on my 66 and seem to be a lot more comfortable what are the diameter of your steering wheels and why you chose that size.
Offline
Been doing some reading on it and thinking the smaller diameter wheel would be less sensitive steering. my car steers so easy. i really liked my steering wheel that was in my 66 it was a 14 and I did not have power steering and was fine..i beleive it will feel better than the huge 16 with skinny grip.
What size are yall running and why?

I suggest you find another stock wheel and cut it down to 14 1/2 or 15 inches. It takes some figuring and a few hours of careful work but the results are very gratifying...and it works great and looks way better than any of the Grunt wheels I've seen. Also you have the stock horn connections and tri-bar. If I was smart enough to make image posting work I'd post one, butt.....If you want to PM you email addy I'll send you a pic. Or you can check it out at the bash, hopefully.

Circumference = Pi x Diameter
Measure the diameter of the original hoop to get the circumference.
Calculate the circumference of the diameter you want it to be.
Cut the difference outta the hoop.
Use sash clamps to pull back to a circle ... weld back together.
It'll wanna go egg shaped, but the clamp will get most of that out
Cut the spokes to suit the new diameter, weld the hoop back to the hub.
Wheel built by Jim Bowie ... via BB.
Thanks guys.

A jig saw, a small welder, and a little epoxy, is all it takes, BB did a nice description of the process a while back, and you don't have to take off as much of the original coating as in the picture, O and you will also need a band clamp

I wish someone would provide this service ....if I had the time and space to do it..... it would be a good gig.

that 16 is just too big and uncomfortable needs a bigger grip too

Hey Billy here is my 14" leather covered Grant.
I was apprensive about it being Grant when i ordered it but it has been rock solid in its performance. The grip diameter has a very nice feel as well. The bottom two spokes are offset which makes it really sturdy. No horn issues either. Its over ten years old .

Here is my 6 bolt 14 inch wheel I got off eBay. I like the positive connection of the horn buttons you can get for the 6 bolt wheels.

My steering wheel is a LeCarra 14" ‘Elegant’

I have that same wheel in 14" and it has worked very well for a number of years now. I do have the Borgeson power steering also. At least it isn't like the HUGE steering wheel I had on my 1950 Cadillac many years ago in my youth. Power steering on that boat was by Armstrong.....maneuvering that beast in a crowded parking garage was truly a challenge.

At my height and seating position the top of the wheel obscures the gas gauge.
Mildly annoying but better than those Conestoga “wagon wheels” sized tillers.

Hey Rudi, How's that cup holder attached to your console?

Rudi wrote:
Steve, the bottom of the cup holder has two felt covered inserts that are a slight press fit into the seat belt buckle receptacles that 67-68 consoles have.
The inserts were originally on the center of the holder but I had to reposition them so it to clear the window , door lock switches.

Exactly ...feels like a wheel off a old non powersteering tractor....I read where an old thunderbird had a 18 inch wheel.
