Steering Box ID?

Hoping someone can assist in identifying this steering box.  A friend is considering purchasing it to install in his 65 Mustang.  This steering box does not have the long shaft found on the 65-66 models.  Other than for a Ford, the seller does not know other details.  The ID tag is missing.  Hand written on the cardboard box that held it indicates it is a “quick ratio” unit.
So, will this unit bolt into the frame of the 65, and will the 65 pitman arm bolt unto it?  My friend will adapt the steering column to fit this unit if the rest is a ‘bolt-in’ operation.

Re: Steering Box ID?

This is most likely a 1966 Ford Fairlane steering box.  It is definitely NOT Mustang.  All 66 Mustang steering boxes would be long shaft unless someone modified it.   It is definitely not a full size Galaxie steering box.

If multiple things can go wrong, the one that will go wrong will be the one that causes the most damage.

Re: Steering Box ID?

The housing was cast on Feb 8,1968 (8B8) so it went into a 1968 model of some Ford.

Re: Steering Box ID?

Here’s a decoder for the tag.
Might be able to help identify what it came from.

I found this for decoding the engineering part number.
