Finally… proof of MOTOR vs ENGINE argument

On my 4.3L boat engine.

There is the answer, right there on the dipstick.
No…. Wait…

I guess it just depends on how you look at it.

Re: Finally… proof of MOTOR vs ENGINE argument

Good Grief, Is an engine a motor?    According to websters  “People use both interchangeably, but the difference is that motors run on electricity and engines run on combustion. The engine converts various forms of fuels into mechanical force, while the motor transforms electrical energy into mechanical energy.” What blew up in the chevy 6 in the first place?

Boat dipstick tubes are designed so a long tube can be inserted inside all the way to the bottom of the oil pan. Then a vacuum fitting threads onto those big threads so oil can be sucked out through the dipstick tube.  Makes less mess than trying to drain oil out of the bottom of the pan.

1968 T-code Coupe with a 302.  Nice car, no show stopper for sure, but I like it.

You have no idea how sorry I am to have resurrected this discussion.

Now, I am going to motor on over to the car show to show off my engine.

Re: Finally… proof of MOTOR vs ENGINE argument

I hope you are using a good grade of motor oil on your way to a motor sports event and have time to glance through the latest Motor Trend magazine.

Re: Finally… proof of MOTOR vs ENGINE argument

Remember the old  "Motor's Manuals" ? An automotive mechanics 'bible'.....
That 4.3 is in your 'engine boat"..right?  (Can't remember)
(4.3  "motivators" are near about bullet-proof! If you can't get 300,000 miles + outta one...ya got a dud. Sorta like a 289)

Re: Finally… proof of MOTOR vs ENGINE argument

The 4.3 succumbed to internal freeze damage that cracked the block allowing water to fill the crankcase. It happened before I bought the boat and did not surface until AFTER the boat was test driven in the lake. The boat has 90 hours on it. It ran fine on the test drive and had no obvious issues.
The previous owner was a really nice old gentleman and he agreed to pay for a new engine if I would install  it, since he had told me there was no problem with the engine.

So, now I will have a boat with very low hours and a brand new engine.

And hopefully the last boat engine with a bowtie on it that I will ever touch.
