97 Explorer block, crank, rods, pistons and cam. I had it vatted, cleaned decked and honed at the machine shop. New cam bearings installed. Hastings double moly rings are installed. King rod and main bearings in standard size. Reciprocating assembly is a matched factory set so original balance is intact.
Summit timing chain. E7 heads with resurface and valve job. New Melling oil pump and pickup. Front sump pan. New dipstick and tube.
It will get finned aluminum Power by Ford valve covers, stock rockers, a new timing cover, new harmonic balancer and a brand new aluminum intake manifold. Brand new Duraspark distributor with steel gear.
This should make somebody a great engine having a little more compression than the typical foxbody Mustang GT. All tolerances are right on spec. Will be posting it for sale when completed soon.
The next one will be a 331 stroker with GT40 heads and three deuces for my 65 convertible. And I still have a set of new pistons and rings and all the parts to build one more 5.0 if I can come up with one more block.
What are YOU doing for fun this summer?

This summer I’m cruising as much as possible.
One thing I won’t be doing is working on cars except oil changes, maybe a new set of tires if I can find ones I like. 15” rubber has very poor selection.

First, let us acknowledge that Mustang Steve is no more. You are now clearly the proprietor of Steve's Engine Service.
Second, as for fun, well I thought I'd be finishing up my 6.0 Powerstroke build, but the head studs I ordered in April which were supposed to be available in June have been pushed back twice now and aren't shipping until September (if that's even true). I'm going to try and get the K member, control arms, and front sway bar off to the powdercoater for my '89 GT this week since I'm working close by. Other than that I wouldn't describe cleaning out the garage and the shop as fun, but it is necessary. Who knows maybe I'll finally get my 4 post lift set up?

Nice work.
Wish my work area was as roomie and clean, what else could one ask for!
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
