Is this the definition of torque?

This is not an optical illusion, the splines are twisted.

I needed to remove the driveshaft on my 70 FB and it would not slide into the transmission, I had to unbolt the rear axle and slide it back to get the u-joint out of the differential yoke, then had to tap on the front yoke to get it to dislodge from the output shaft. I milled the side off of the yoke to get a better look at the splines.

This what a 427 Stroker and a set of Nitto 285/45-18 will do on the dragstrip.

The amount of fun is directly proportionate to the damage done.

Re: Is this the definition of torque?

Think I need to rethink the 331 plans, think I need a 427.

Re: Is this the definition of torque?

Definition of torque?   NO

Result of torque?  YES

Old racer trick on rear axles is to take a piece of steel angle and lay it on the axle and scribe a straight line down the side.  once that line has made one complete revolution, it is time to replace the axle.  I don't know if this is truth or an old wive's tale, but it makes you think!

I got the TKO600 with the heavy duty output shaft with more splines so the root diameter of the shaft is larger.  Kind of like 28 spline vs 31 spline rear axles.  I doublt I will ever give it the test like you are doing, though.

Money you enjoy wasting is NOT wasted money... unless your wife finds out.

It's real fun when you keep on twisting until it snaps and you're in the middle of nowhere. Good thing I carried spares, though getting the broken piece out of the diff is no picnic; had to pull out the other axle and pound it through. Warning: when it finally breaks free after a strong enough blow from a BFH, it comes flying out of the axle tube like a missile!

Re: Is this the definition of torque?

maybe the stroker idea instead of a big block isn't such a bad idea after all.....that is sweet!!!
