So I've been working on setting up the rear differential in my car. I have the inner wheel wells and the trunk floor out and the crites leaf spring relocation kit in. While measuring up from side to side it looks like the diefferential is shifted toward the drivers side by about one inch. I know I welded the spring perches evenly from side to side and that the front spring mounts were welded exactly the same on both sides. However...I do see damage in the floor behind the rear seat on the drivers side where the car took a hit at some point. Basically between the drivers side rear shock mount and the wheel well are several small dents and hammer marks. My question is, would you take it to a shop to verify it is out of speck and have the frame pulled or cheat and cut the spring perches off and reweld them over an inch?

What you need to measure is the centerline of the rear yoke, not the pumpkin. That is what needs to be in the center. If you assume your spring perches are centered, measure the distance from the yoke to each and veryfy that they are the same.

Yep, about 3/4 inch short on the drivers side. Any thoughts? I'm leaning toward cutting the perches off and sliding them over but want to do the right thing.

All Mustangs are off a bit. I am taking my rear end out adn moving the perches so I can get away from my lowering blocks that I built. I have offset pins in the lowering blocks so they center the rear end.
If you are 3/4" off, move it 3/8" and all is good. You can slot the holes in the existing spring perches that far... LATERALLY, not front to back!

I ain't even gonna lie....I didn't think of that MS.... That's a whole lot easier than cutting the perches off and rewelding. Thanks for the help!

MS...looking it over 3/8" would only give that much...I needed .3/4. I bit the bullet and moved the perches. It lines up well now.on to the next project... Replacing the entire trunk!

I figured with a title like "WWMSD?" (which I'm assuming means "What would Mustang Steve do?")
That RTV would come into play somewhere before the thread was over... how disappointing that it didn't...oh well.

Awesome! Thank you!
I check in here most every day... It's just that everybody's answers are so good I don't ususally have much else to contribute beyond what the regulars have already posted... which is a good problem to have. It means that there are a lot of knowledgeable people here who are willing to help.
I'm coming to my first bash in a few weeks... can't wait to meet all you guys!

Yup on the "wwmsd", He probably will PM me about using it between the leafs to stop squeaks or something.

ACTUALLY... Since you mentioned it... A paper thin layer of RTV between the lower spring leaf and the shock plate will keep it from rusing in there...
OK, there you have it.. MSR
