Thought I was going to skip the Bash Thrash step this year.... NOPE

Need help on identifying this brake caliper set up.  Are they rebuildable or just replace? I went to have my tires rotated and balanced and the two young men found my right rear caliper leaking. I bought these several years ago from Mustang Steve website. I can't remember if they are the GT or the Cobra. What year they are or anything. Still have plenty of time to get this done. I am sure I can rebuild them, I just have zero experience with these types.

Pics don’t show the caliper, but if the MustangSteve brackets are two-piece type, they are 94-04 cobra

If brackets are one piece, they are 05-14 GT

It is the Cobra brakes. Cannot get caliper over the new pads. Is there a secret to compressing them. I'm using the caliper tool that worked in past. It is even with the dust boot. If I take the thin metal anti-squeal plates off the pads it fits.

Also it wasn't a leaking brake calioer. Oil was leaking from rear end. Inserted new seal in rear end axle and applied silicone around bearing to axle joint. The axle had a little wear around the seal area. Smoothed out with 800 grit cloth. Back to mirror finish. Just can't get brake calioer on.

Ed, didn't you have a leaking right rear seal in Vandalia?\
I think I recall that the calipers are the same for the GT, and the Cobra. The Cobra pads are thinner to allow for a thicker rotor.
Could be wrong though.

Nope, not same caliper. Cobra has wider slot to clear the thicker rotor.

If I remember correctly, the rear brackets were taller to accommodate the larger rotor.
The use of Cobra pads are required.
If the calipers were originally v6 rears, minor grinding might be required for rotor clearance in the slot.

May have to Google it to find old articles about it…good luck.

We used 80 grit sand paper to take them down just a little bit and they fit now. Steve Buzek gave me the idea when I called him. We went ahead and flushed out the brake lines to have all new fluid in them. Tonight when I get back from work I will bed the new rear pads in. The amount sanded off of the pads was very small amount. Nothing on the box said GT or Cobra. I specifically told the highly trained AutoZone employee that I needed Cobra brake pads. 
Yes I did have a leaky rear seal from before. It was probably the same side. I probably need to find a right side axle for a 9 inch Lincoln Versaile rear end. The blemish on the axle was taken down, but not totally. Looks like a grinder mark. My thumbnail can still feel it. but it is much better.

Yes, GT pads are too thick, by just a iddybiddybit
GT calipers are very similar, but different

Yes, that is a technical dimension
