Cleaning up wiring.

I did the 3G Taurus conversion over 20 years ago.  I was going to clean up the wiring near the starter solenoid.  I was thinking about cutting out the old regulator harness along with this other plug harness and cap the wires.  The wire that I’m holding is connected to positive side of the starter solenoid and is  constantly hot.  I had previously had them wrapped with electrical tape and zip tied to the wires.  Any issues with doing this?   Thanks.

Re: Cleaning up wiring.

I fully understand wanting to have wiring that does not show, but isn't that likely to getting saturated with water and road debris mounted inside the  wheelwell?

Re: Cleaning up wiring.

Without a wiring diagram to refer to, I would be careful to just cut free some wiring as it may be needed to complete some circuit.
I don't like to trust electrical tape on car especially where it is exposed to heat, cold, dirt, etc.

Re: Cleaning up wiring.

I did have it covered in a wire loom with zip ties to cover it up.  I’ll have to take a look at the wiring diagram to verify what’s what.   Thanks for the info.

Re: Cleaning up wiring.

Use a stock wiring harness. Modify it. Use a 3g alternator either have it wired up using the green/red wire for the dummy alt light or use a https://www.ebay.com/itm/282585205971?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=282585205971&targetid=1645685073568&device=m&mktype=pla&googleloc=1026984&poi=&campaignid=20133407470&mkgroupid=147476396765&rlsatarget=pla-1645685073568&abcId=9312979&merchantid=101501425&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI743DrMazgQMVXw-tBh3w7gzzEAQYASABEgLvEfD_BwE

If you use the green/red wire I may suggest buying a earlier model wiring harness that has the wiring for the Brake light switch it has the same green/red wire and can be used. For The Firewall harness I purchased an OE Firewall plug I re pinned the plug also giving me 12 gauge wire to the head light I added in relays that are in the Headlight circuit thats where the 12gauge headlight feed is coming from. Also added in a horn relay to give the horn  a little mor oomph. Dunno if it was a good idea to add a relay to the Horn Circuit but I added it anny how.  Guess ill find out when I push the Horn Button. I HAVENT tested all my circuits yet.
Id like suggestions on where to route the large I believe 6 gauge or so wire that will feed my fuse block.  Im going to call Sherco auto marine hopefully their still around. They will custom make tracer wire. I just got a substituted wire instead of what I was wanting. They'd  make it right if id Call. I wannt a 6 gauge Black with Yellow stiped tracer wire. To feed my Fuse block.  I need to buy the fuse block I want. I was curious if there are others here that want to also buy a few fuse blocks or need one. So we all could get a deal on them.  A bussmann Fuse block https://www.connectorconcepts.com/bu15reteatcf7.html
This fuse block is single dual or triple pole.  So no need for multiple panels.

Re: Cleaning up wiring.

I also added a postitive lug that goes through the fender apron. So I could mount my fuse to it and then to the alternator. The self exciting 3g kit came out or I found it after I had purchased the 64 1/2 wiring for the extra wires to go to the alternator and to the electric choke on the carburetor. This way I was using stock wires I didnt add any. And I gained my wire for my alternator and for my electric choke.

I used some flex 1/2" conduit and connectors' when I ran through the wheel well.

If this forum can't fix it, it isn't broke.

Re: Cleaning up wiring.

I used surplus washer drain hose tucked up under the fender to run all my wiring though. Rubber grommets and edge protection was used where ever the hose went through body panels keeping everything water tight.
 and chafe proof.

Re: Cleaning up wiring.

Why not have the mega fuse or similar mounted below the battery tray?  I'm  going to do the same for my mega fuse or similar up for suggestions for the fuse for the 3G alternator. Ill give a shout out Thank you Bullet Bob For the Great Help on wiring. With the electric choke and LED upgrade to the stock Cluster. I need to look back and get the new for get the electronic devices name that was suggested to replace the gauges CVM?..sorry dont mean to highjack the thread. But I would like to add a center console to my car. With gauge or gauges like fuel with idiot light. I wish there were better options on gauge clusters especially now that there are the Screen Whatever Gauges in the new Mustangs. But im surprised it doesnt give the option for tons of different gauge displays. But in lED or similar display giving classic gauges, to modern types of displays and read out information.
