Versailles Rearend, need brake advice

I have a 78 Versailles rearend for my 67 Mustang.  I need to upgrade to newer disc brakes but am unsure what route to take.  What brakes from a junk yard am I most likely to easily find that would work?  Are the 94-2004 cobra brakes the only ones that will fit or are there any other years?  I am looking for the least expensive way to add brakes to this rear end.  Are used brakes the way to go or is new a better route?  Seems like if you buy used you will probably have to rebuild/replace calipers and turn or buy rotors and replace hoses.. plus get an adapter kit to fit...Any suggestions?  Thanks

Re: Versailles Rearend, need brake advice

If you go with a set of MS brackets and all new/rebuilt stuff, it will cost you about $600 to put 94-04 COBRA brakes on it.

If you can find a used set of brakes (nothing wrong with used - we all drive with them every single day) then the inexpensive brackets make it cheap and easy.

Other option is late model GT brakes.  I have brackets for those also.  Brackets are cheaper and brakes are cheaper and should be fairly plentiful in salvage yards now.

Be advised... Cobra calipers have a much more favorable routing for the e-brake cables.  No matter how you mount them, the GT cables point straight down.  Cobra points to front.

If you have all the original Versailles parts, people actually spend good money for that stuff on ebay, because they just cannot find the individual parts.  I got $400 by piecing out mine and kept the entire rear end, less brakes.  That was 10 years ago, so they are probably more than that now.  If you get a used cobra or GT set, you can come out money ahead.

Money you enjoy wasting is NOT wasted money... unless your wife finds out.

Re: Versailles Rearend, need brake advice

Thanks for the reply, I found a rear brake set up off a 2003 Mach I, includes both calipers, caliper mounting brackets, anti moan brackets,  and mounting bolts for $300.  Will that work and does it sound like a good deal?  I think I will need the MS brackets, rotors and ebrake cable to complete?  Thanks

Re: Versailles Rearend, need brake advice

03 MACH I brakes are identical to 03 Cobra brakes.
