65 SBF 289 rear seal

Well I have chased the oil leak down to the rear main seal. As i have discovered the pin was still in the main cap with the new felpro seal. So I have it apart and have removed the pin for the old rope seal, Is there anything else I should do or am I good to re assemble this with the new felpro seal. Should i put a little oil on the new seal to help with the install or is that a no no?

Re: 65 SBF 289 rear seal

Oil it and clock it about 3/8” away from the main cap parting line. No sealer!
For best results, also install the Felpro crankshaft repair sleeve.
You do want a thin layer of RTV between the cap and the seal on the outer edges where the cap fits into the block.

Done, Done and done. She is all back together. Now i have decoded not to drive it then it wont leak. Now onto the steering columm, there seams to be a bitt of drag. Wondering if "MS" lower bearing is what I need.

What steering box do you have? Is yours a column built into the steering box, or does it have a rag joint?

Re: 65 SBF 289 rear seal

One problem with borgeson shaft mod is it does not capture movement of the shaft. That can cause horn contacts to be too tight or too loose, or even both. The rag joint needs to fit snug at the bottom when the wheel is torqued to the shaft. The bearing kit makes it easier to set that play to zero.
