Has anyone ever polished their windshield. Mine is the original and it is so beat up I can barely see through it when I'm driving into the sun. I think Eastwood has something for this. Any suggestions?

A LOT of insurance companys replace pitted/scratched/orn windsheilds...FREE! In SC they do! Tell the agent it impairs your vision(and it does!) and they SHOULD have a list of companys to replace it...free!

I have used the Eastwood scratch repair kit.
In my experience, it does a nice job of polishing the surface and removing haze but it is not going to remove scratches (if you can feel it with your finger nail) or chips. I ended up buying a new piece of glass.
And it is messy. I did mine before installing the glass.
NOTE: I may not have succeeded with this product because I do not have the patience required to make it happen. Your results may vary.

Agree with both Sal and Billy. I'd check with your insurance company first.

Yep, glass polishing only goes so far. Light haze, hard water spots, etc. Beyond that it is futile to try. If you do use one of the commercial polishes, just be sure to not spin up your polisher too fast. Glass cannot take the heat.
I bought a nifty Harbor Freight style angle grinder off the internet. It was the only small angle grinder that I could find that had variable speed. I got a backing pad and some 3" foam pads that stuck to it with velcro. It did a decent job getting the yard sprinkler hard water overspray off my Suburban side windows but it was a lot of work and would not have done anymore.

I have to agree with 6Sally6 on this one. If you have long term road rash on your windshield, it's sandblasted and no-over-the-counter remedy will fix it. If your time is worth anything it is cheaper to go the new windshield route.
Online!
Here in Dallas I can get a CARLITE tinted windshield installed for $250. It changes your outlook and makes you feel better about driving the car. It almost seems to make the whole car new again. To me, it is worth the cost. I cannot imagine any kind of kit that would do anything but lighten your wallet when you have an old pitted windshield.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
