Retractable Hardtop?

This is an interesting one, not that I would want it (for a myriad of reasons), but interesting none the less.

Re: Retractable Hardtop?

Interesting it has the same crappy fitting hood my 66 does !!
I wonder if....they had to extend the truck section to swallow the folding roof (like the 57-59 skyliners)
It would be a hit at the car shows butt......I wouldn't trade my 'plain-old-coupe' for it .

Exactly what I was thinking...

1968 T-code Coupe with a 302.  Nice car, no show stopper for sure, but I like it.

Re: Retractable Hardtop?

You know, now that he has the mechanism working, if he put in the time needed to enlarge the rear end enough to engulf that while keeping the stock mustang shape then he would really have something.  Done properly, you would only notice the change when it would be parked beside a normal mustang.

Re: Retractable Hardtop?

I think this says it all ... "Cuurent Bid: $3,000".
It appears the current owner may be hanging on to this ride.

Well, when you build something that suits only your taste you've pretty much decided who the resale market is going to be.

I like it!  It's creative and something no one else has.  You'd definitely stand out in a crowd.

More like a farmer. 😁

Trunk does not compliment the body lines.
Kinda like the square 80’s T-birds.

Re: Retractable Hardtop?

One of the reasons I found this interesting is that there's this mentioned in the ad

"This 1966 Ford Mustang started life as a coupe and was later refurbished and converted to a retractable hardtop convertible using components produced by Retractables Unlimited, which was founded by the late Ford Motor Company engineer Ben J. Smith."

Sure enough a Google search found others! I do not like it, but I love trivia.

After reading the info you posted, that car is more interesting.
