I have a 69 351w and am not sure what goes in these 2 empty threaded slots on the passenger side. On the pic the holes are in the very front and very back of the block just above the oil pan. I assume they take a threaded plug? If so can anyone tell me the size of the plug needed?

Did you remove a plug from them? They are just blind holes as I recall. Nothing was removed when pulled from the car.
There are water jacket plugs in the blocks, but unless you removed the plug, there is nothing but a blind hole.

On a search I found one post that suggested the hole towards the front is possibly for a dip stick bracket for dip sticks that ran through the timing cover. Mine takes a 7/16" coarse bolt which seems a bit big for a dip stick bracket. Your threads may be different.
The hole in back is a blind hole on mine. I replaced the pipe plug in the block drain hole with a 1/4" radiator drain cock since the regular pipe plugs seem to get stuck - at least for me - it always seems like the more I really need to drain the block, the more likely I'll round-over the plug. On the crate motor I acquired from a failed project, I had to drill them out and use an easy-out to get them out of the block.

The 7/16" threaded blind hole at the front is for the grounding wire connection. All Ford small blocks have one up there in some form or fashion, thought the configuration has changed through the years.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
