Not a Windsor block? Sleeved cylinder and studs for oil pan? Aluminum block?

Re: a new meaning of "ENGINE TEARDOWN"...

Definitely an aluminum block, and definitely roller cam bearings.  Roller cam bearings are a mega horsepower thing.  They can only be used in aftermarket blocks because there isn't enough meat in a factory block to enlarge the cam bore.  These engine also typically run a larger diameter cam, because they run so much valve spring pressure a stock diameter cam would literally snap in half.

Likely this carnage is the result of detonation.  At this level by the time you could almost hear it you've already run over the crankshaft.

Did a Google image search of the split iron block; that thing is all over the internet and it's at least 13 years old.
Oldest post I could find, the guy said he got it from someone else. Discussion was around how fast ET wise a stock 5.0 block could live. Many lived into the 9 second range, some came apart before that. Calculator says a 2500 lb car going 9.3 needs 600hp.
That aluminum race motor with aluminum rods and needle cam bearings seems a completely different animal.

Whether it is an aluminum block or an older case iron block, it proves the saying; “Racing is the constant search for the weakest link”.
