Also comes in .82 fifth gear ratio.  I did not see the 1-4 ratios

Re: New five speed on the market

I'd let a bunch of other people test it out first.  Some years back they released another 5 speed that was basically a copy of the old Doug Nash 4+1, called the Super Street 5 Speed.  DNE went bankrupt and Richmond bought the design.  The problem was they were more interested in making money than building a tough trans, and used cheaper materials, cut corners, etc.  This led to at best spotty reviews for the Richmond, whereas the old DNE ones are highly regarded.

This trans looks like a clone/copy of a Tremec.  This is just my opinion, but it seems Richmond is trying to run from their publicity nightmare of the Super Street 5 Speed by launching a new 5 speed trans.  Given how they treated their last design I'm not terribly confident they learned anything.  IMO Tremec did it first, Tremec did it best, and Tremec is a known quantity.  I'd go with a TKX long, long before anything from Richmond went into one of my cars.

I used a set of Richmond gears in my 8" rear years ago and they howled to no end on deceleration.  The guy who set them up was known for doing 8" and 9" rears for all the racers and street guys around here (this was before I learned how to set up gears, when I was like 17 or 18).  He said they all did that, and offered to set up a different manufacturer's set for free.  Some years later I took him up on the offer and the new gears made no noise at all.  My philosophy now is that avoidance is the best policy.

Re: New five speed on the market

That's the old Super Street 5 Speed.  The DNE 4+1 copy.

Re: New five speed on the market

Designed to pair with a 3.55-3.73 gear.  The gear spacing is decent.  The drop between 3 and 4 is more than between 1 and 2 and 2 and 3.  I'd rather see a numerically lower 1st and 2nd ratio for more even spacing, and then bump the rear ratio to 3.73-4.10.

If multiple things can go wrong, the one that will go wrong will be the one that causes the most damage.

Re: New five speed on the market

Probably not.  The Tremec was a stronger version of the T5, but designed to directly replace a T5.  A T5 fits, so I'd assume a Tremec does too, and as this is a pretty obvious copy of a Tremec I would assume it will fit with minimal fuss as well.  Of course, I'd rather just use a T5 or one of the Tremecs instead because I have extremely high confidence in both designs, but zero confidence in this one.
