I tried to replace a top latch on a friend's 69 vert. I found that the latch handle pivot bolt hole was all elongated. I also found out that the pivot pin for the latch hook (toggle) is installed first and the whole top is built around it! I couldn't get the pin removed so instead, I looked in my trusty old 50 year box and found an old bushing left over from my Hughes Helicopters days.
It had the right hole dimension inside (5/16") and the OD was very close to the big hole in the latch handle. I cut the bushing to the same length and touched up the hole in the latch - and press fit. It was then that I found that the threads for the handle pivot bolt were stripped. Got out my trusty 90 degree drill motor and my Helicoil kit and we were back in business.
Now all he needs is a seal kit for the damned pump reservoir that is leaking where the long bolt that holds it all together goes.....
And - you know when the hose for the PCV valve on a 302 gets all soft and mushy from oil, it can collapse from the manifold suction and if makes a very loud and annoying raspberry sound?
