MS SN95 Front Cobra Brackets Question

Hello everyone.

I was looking to install the rear SN95 Cobra brakes on my '63 Comet. I'm currently cleaning up a small bearing 8" to swap in and I'd love to install the SN95 bracket for the front, only I want to keep 15" wheels all around.

I was wondering if I could use the caliper bracket from a V6/GT model and attach it to the MS SN95 Cobra front disk conversion instead of using the supplied Cobra bracket. The car is pretty light as it is & I plan to lighten it up where ever I can so I feel the standard '04 Mustang brakes should be adequate for my driving.

Anyone out there know if this will work out? If not, I'm open to suggestions to keep the 15's and go disk.

Re: MS SN95 Front Cobra Brackets Question

The rear Cobra brakes will fit with most 15” wheels.  The GT or v6 front brakes will not work on your car. The reason is the original five lug front hubs will not fit inside the smaller rotors of the v6 or GT brakes. In order to make them fit inside the smaller rotors, the OD must be machined smaller and it reduces the margin around the wheel studs, making it too thin. During the design process, I decided the margin was insufficient to properly hold the pressed-in studs without the cast iron hub possibly cracking, creating an unsafe condition.
The late model cars use a steel hub and the splines on the wheel studs are significantly smaller, making for a larger margin around the studs.
Yes, you COULD make the smaller rotors fit, but it will result in a possibly unsafe condition, which is what you are trying to avoid by installing disc brakes in the first place.

Money you enjoy wasting is NOT wasted money... unless your wife finds out.

Re: MS SN95 Front Cobra Brackets Question

I appreciate the feedback Steve, I had a feeling there was a reason why you didn't list that as an option in the Cobra disk conversion.
