Hello everyone, its been a while since I saw everyone in Bakersfield. That was a great weekend. Anyway my 65 has one of the first Gen Borgison PS conversions and it just went out ( started to leak bad at the box. I called them and he said he was surprised I got as many years as I did. Recommended replacing it. So I am replacing with the new as he put it, it is bullet proof and redesigned Gen 2. In my 10 years I have baked 2 pressure lines and 1 pump.. Was wondering if any of you have had problems with yours. I know the pressure line rides close to the front header tube and I have it insulated with a spark plug boot.

I have two of the new ones. Reroute the hoses so they fit in a better way and your time will be well-spent. I made steel tubing extensions to get the hoses where I wanted them. The pump they dent has a terrible return line location. I bought a Ford style housing for their pump and it routes the hose downward where it should be.
My complaints on the Borgeson setup:
Lower column bearing is a joke. Use MustangSteve design bearing.
Lower seal between box and idler arm is a joke. It does not even touch what it is supposed to seal. Use a length of pvc pipe to make it fit in a compressed manner.
Hoses are too short. Reroute with 3/8” steel tubing and SAE inverted flare fittings on pressure side and replace the ham can housing with a Ford style housing
Pump mounting brackets are a joke. Fabricate brackets to triangulate the mount.
Other than those shortcomings, the system works well. I just wish Borgeson would fix their screwups to have a superior system.

I agree with everything MS said. Its a good system, and a good concept, but the execution is lacking. One other option on the pump mounting is to switch to the Fox style accessory drive. There are adapter brackets to mount the Saginaw pump in the Ford bracket (Wild Horses 4x4 has them).
Another issue is that you need to make sure you have adequate positive caster in the front end, which simply isn't possible on a stock front end. You basically need to do the Shelby drop, which also moves the upper A arm rearward and greatly improves positive caster. 3.5 degree + is minimum IMO.
You may also find the system twitchy and need to reduce the pressure to make it behave right. This requires buying their kit. IMO, as this is a common issue the kit should come with the system for what the system costs.

Totally agree! And, include in the instructions that this kit is available. A few years ago I called the Borgeson tech line and the rep told me of the kit.

Chris,
Bought my first one in '13 and put it on the road in '15. About five years ago it developed a sector seal leak and I sent it back for a re-seal. It worked ok for a year or two and then developed an input shaft seal leak. It also seemed to have more slop on center than before after they re-sealed it.
I installed the latest version after the Bash last year and so far it is great. Feels way better than the old one and no leaks.

I bought and installed my Borgeson power steering kit in July of 2010. Still working with no issues today. Guess I'm lucky, but then I probably don't put as many miles on my Mustang as those who have been experiencing issues. I had already done the Shelby drop, so I didn't have to do any additional mods or adjustments to have it be driveable. So, so far, so good.

Got my new steering box in and what a difference from the original. Car now drives very nice, I only have about 3/32" toe in so should be fine. All other specs are right on with the Shelby drop specked. Figure down the road I will replace the pressure/return lines with AN fittings and PFTE hose, then I can route them where I want to. But need the car as a driver right now.
