Rear Leaf Springs - 5 Leaves?

Is anyone running around with 5 leaves in their rear spring set up?
I'm considering adding a leaf and wondered what the ride might be like.

Re: Rear Leaf Springs - 5 Leaves?

I have 5 leaf mid-eye from Mustangs Plus…early 90’s vintage.

The KYB Gas-a-Just shocks on the rear are a bit too stiff.

It is very noticeable when driving on washboard/potholed roads too fast.

The shocks are my problem, not the springs.

Re: Rear Leaf Springs - 5 Leaves?

Thanks for the reply.

I had my springs reset by a Blacksmith just a few years ago and I had him set the springs higher too, but I think I need an extra leaf to stop it bottoming out on rough country roads when I have it loaded up with people.

A firmer ride doesn't bother me, but I did wonder how firm the ride would be.

Re: Rear Leaf Springs - 5 Leaves?

A full size spare tire, tools, and Texas beer are in trunk.
Luggage was on rear seat.

The ride has been fine for me the past 30+ years.

I just drive slower on washboard dirt roads and Michigan potholed, frost heaved highways…as needed of course.

Re: Rear Leaf Springs - 5 Leaves?

I have 5 leaf springs on my 68, along with KYB shocks and a 3/4" sway bar. Not the smoothest ride, but not squirrelly either.

After the  2019 Bash, I disconnected…eventually removed  and sold 3/4” rear sway bar.

I noticed less oversteer and a smoother ride.

As Sally says…just sayin’

Disconnecting the rear sway bar was a suggestion by RPM.

You definitely convinced me to go 5 leaf and thanks again for the ride to see how your car handled in the flesh. I was most impressed.
