Oh I'm diddling around with everything but body and paint. The 3/4 acre lot next to us came up for sale and we didn't want anyone sticking a house in there, so we bought it. Its got a few pines but mostly hardwoods on it. The canopy is way up there at 60-100 feet, but it has mostly English ivy as a ground cover, and it was climbing up all of the trees. You don't see trees this tall in California (except the redwoods) because of the lack of water. I had a landscaper come in and remove the ivy from the base of the trees and cut a path that meanders around the lot, and down near the creek. It's a pretty little lot. I setup a trail cam and enjoy the small herds (2-8) of deer.

Sounds like a really cool piece of property there Terry, I'm a bit envious. Not for the work involved, but for the beauty.

So, other than going from V belt to serpentine and swapping to a pass side water pump inlet and modding all your fixtures for accessories to work on the shorter 5.0, pretty straightforward eh?

Ya, who knew? I figured we'd be installing that 5.0 at around noon. At around three o'clock today, my body had almost no pain from yesterday's work.

Re: Bash Thrash

Gittin there. Packaging is always a thing on these cars with reportedly so much room. Getting the front dress stuff attached, and aligned in order to install the motor has taken many more hours that I'd ever thought. Gonna pick up my shortened drive shaft and proper length bolts for the AC bracket today.

Re: Bash Thrash

Last I heard the 393W/custom motor mount headers are not playing nice with the 5.0/stock motor mount arrangement and some percussive maintenance has led to uninstalling the headers and heat/bending work. Oy. Seemed like a simple prospect. But nooooooo........

They was fashioned for the 393 tall block and other items in the way so fitment does not surprise me. I was wondering hows they was gonna fit.

Uh ya, not too good. Butt with a little hammering, a little grinding, a little bit of torch flame, and a bit of cussing, I got the troublesome driver side hedder bolted up

As the song goes, I'm much too young to feel this damn old.

Re: Bash Thrash

Would have taken about a third the effort if it were a 351W. But I didn't have a runner at the ready. Being a 5.0 replacing the 351W, all the front dress was very different - pulley spacing, water pump outlet, timing pointer, A/C bracket distance to crank, alternator bracket distance to crank/water pump, header interference, dip stick interference.

Re: Bash Thrash

But hey, it's a running Moe Sheen. I've said many a time, I'd give up a hunnert horsepower for reliability. But I guess it's the torque I'll miss. There's a world of difference between the AFR head 393 and the pretty basic 5.0. With the 393 I hardly had to move the throttle to gitter hauling arse. I do like all the room around this 5.0.

That's one of the reasons I went with a 95 front dress, every thing bolts to the heads. Every thing fits a 351 as easily as a 5.0, with just a belt change.

Re: Bash Thrash

This seems to be to be the only one I have after the last computer crash.
Edit: There are a coupla potential gotyas, The low left hand A/C mount makes the compressor hit the shock tower because of the shorter waterpump and front dress.
And no good way to drill through for a front mount dipstick.
