    Replaced Stop Lamp (brake) Switch, got three questions...

    1. Should the master cylinder rod just fall out of the master cylinder?

    2. Should that rod have had any brake fluid on it at all? I'm guessing no.

    3. Noticed that the brake pedal when you press down, its at a slight angle and grinds into the brake/clutch pedal support. Also starting playing with my clutch pedal, its doing the same thing! Is there a quick fix that doesn't involve pulling the whole contraption out of the car?

    65 Vert (UCA mod,4bbl, hipo ex, 17x8), 2013 C-Max (hitch & cargo net), 2018 Cherokee (In bumper hitch)

    No, there is supposed to be a lever at the top of the brake pedal that hits the pedal support before the rod can be pulled out.

    There is no fluid around the rod.  It simply pushes on a piston inside the master cylinder.

    If your pedal support is worn so bad the clutch and brake pedal are at an angle and scraping AND the rod can fall out of the master cylinder, you need to get that fixed PRONTO.  The pedal assembly bushings are so far gone you will need a complete rebuild.  The MustangSteve part number BBK kit will fix it better than new, but you must remove the complete pedal assembly.  That will be less troublesome than a lawsuit if your brake rod falls out and you kill somebody!  Your pedal support bushings look like the one pictured, or worse.  See the link http://www.mustangsteve.com/clutchbearings.html

    It's not that hard to pull the pedal support.  Just be sure you pull the instrument cluster first.  Much easier to take it out through the dash.   I had never done it when pulled ours to install the MS booster kit.  Just take your time and study things a bit before diving in.
