'66 Mustang coupe trunk adjustment

How do you adjust the side to side gap between the quarters on a '66 mustang coupe? I alinged the up/down and front to back, but cannot seem to get the gap set on the sides. I have about a 3/8" gap on the driver side and 1/8" on the pass side.

Re: '66 Mustang coupe trunk adjustment

Are you installing new quarter panels or just a decklid on the original quarters?

Re: '66 Mustang coupe trunk adjustment

New quarters already installed - I did try to fix before welding everything up,but ended up having to do the taillight panel now along with the corner peices that attach to the taillight panel and quarter panels.

It did have the same gap issue with the orginal quarters.

Re: '66 Mustang coupe trunk adjustment

Seems there should be some sideways adjustment where the hinges attach to the deacklid.  I remember on a fastback once, I just grabbed the decklid with it in open position and pushed it sideways to slightly bend the hinges.  It worked for me and, miraculously, no hammer was involved in the solution.

Re: '66 Mustang coupe trunk adjustment

Loosen the bolts that attach to the deck lid then adjust side to side

Re: '66 Mustang coupe trunk adjustment

I did the same as Steve. Adjustment at hinges did not give enough so a little shove to one side and all was good.

Re: '66 Mustang coupe trunk adjustment

That's good my stock deck lid fits weird even when I had the stock quarters on I had to replace mine and it fits the same I might take a die grinder and take off a sliver it actually is perfectly adjust gaps up top then at the bottom both sides are maybe a 1/16" from hitting the end caps

Re: '66 Mustang coupe trunk adjustment

Yea I tried loosening the bolts and shifting them over, no luck. Seems Mustangsteve's advice may be working, I just need to give it a few more tries.

Thanks!
