im installing new clutch on my 91 fox body 5.0 mustang , was a basket case so i could be missing parts , the videos ive seen say i should have 3 dowels to position pressure pltet to flex plate , my flexplate only has threaded holes around perimeter and dowels all seem to be like studs as opposed to threaded , are these dowels critical or can i just bolt these two together , its a valeo clutch , tremec tranny , any help? thanx , mikey

Some of these guys can answer better than me but heres my take.
For over at least 50 years no dowels were used only bolts. However I can see
an advantage using dowels but bolts will work ok. I assume you meant flywheel
not flexplate.

Ditto hmartin.
I believe the dowels give a better degree of accuracy in positioning the pressure plate, but many, many, MANY cars were put together in previous years without them.
