Makin old man modifications to some of my sockets.

Getting too hard to read otherwise.   Bet some can tell which ones got used a lot in the day.

Re: Makin old man modifications to some of my sockets.

I bought that same set of labels from an ebay vendor a couple of years ago.  Now I can't find the labels...

Re: Makin old man modifications to some of my sockets.

I used one of those vibrating markers to put the numbers on my black sockets then spray painted them white and rubbed off the overspray....then I forgot what I was working on when I couldn't read the numbers on the sockets.

I love my torque wrench. Deal with it.

Re: Makin old man modifications to some of my sockets.

Do they make a bigger set?

If this forum can't fix it, it isn't broke.

Re: Makin old man modifications to some of my sockets.

I bought a set of those Hansen socket trays that have the stud that comes up through each socket with the size on the end. They are real easy to see and I made brackets to mount them on the sides of my roll around so I don't have to hunt through drawers for them. Works real good. My old clip on rails always seemed to have the markings hidden between two sockets so you had to remove them to see if you were right. The Hansen trays are so much better and got all the sockets out of a drawer so I can hide more stuff in there.

Re: Makin old man modifications to some of my sockets.

yeah there are numbers for the bigger sockets,  but not big enough for  me to do my really big sockets.  the biggest label is 1 1/4" and 24  which isnt even close for me.  But those big sizes hardly ever get used.  I havent worked on any big trucks in years.

as far as them staying on after they get greasy, only time will tell  I hope they last somewhat.

I used to use the craftsman rails as well, they did not wear any better than the cheap ones.   I just cut the bars to length and polish the cut end up enough so its not sharp  then if any of the individual socket holders get where they wont hold sockets anymore, change it out.    I dont use any of it like I used to.  I use them because that makes em easier to carry around places.

I bought enough of the Hansen socket trays for all my sockets and I like them.  I keep mine in the drawers of my rollaround because of dust issues. I have managed to break two of the posts on the 1/4" drive sockets, but they glue back on.

Yea, I had mine in the drawers, but to open up room I mounted on the outsides of the top chest. After I did it I realized how nice it is. I just dust mine with the air hose now and then and have help from the Grand-Kids taking them all down and giving them back to me in a bucket. They all get cleaned that way. I am down to less than two minutes to get them all back on the racks!!
