Boss 338 17x8 rims and 2012 13.2 GT brakes don't mix...

Just a heads up, that if you are wanting to run the 13.25 inch GT brakes and 17 inch Boss 338s you may need to rethink your decision. Without signifigant caliper clearancing and /or >..75 spacer there is simply no way to bolt them up. If I were to run 18s up front (like the GT Mustang) then this would not be an issue. Time to drink a cup of coffee and ponder this fo a bit....

Clearance issues...

This is with a 3/8 spacer, no pads, and the caliper slid all the way back. If I were to install pads the caliper would have to slide forward ~ .75 inches.

It looks like they woould be a problem with a 17" rim of any brand, doesn't it  I have been selling the heck out of those brackets and have not heard others having any issues.  Do you think it is that particular BOSS 338 wheel or all 17" wheels?  Can you back the camera farther away so we can get the full wheel view?

Just to be clear. I think this is an issue with the 13.25 inch GT brakes combined with the 17" 338s and similiar wheels, NOT your brackets. The brackets are very nice pieces.

Re: Boss 338 17x8 rims and 2012 13.2 GT brakes don't mix...

Ok, I think I see it.  The smaler ID of the wheel is hitting the caliper where the larger ID of the wheel would clear if that part was deeper in the back side of the wheel.  Most wheels have that smaller ID part closer to the FRONT face of the wheel where yours looks like it starts close to the back side.

I remember when the 13.2" brakes first came out I was telling everyone to use at least an 18" wheel to clear them (since the new GT uses an 18" wheel).  But, someone did some test fits and said they worked with his 17" wheels.  Apparently they do not work with ALL 17" wheels!  Thanks for posting that.  I will add the note on my instructions.

I really LIKE those BOSS 338 wheels.  Bummer they will not fit.

I wouldn't say "they wont fit", they just need some persuasion. I went with a different rotor that has a friendlier offset so the caliper sits inboard about .5".Same basic specs, 13" close to the same width and bore. Played with shim thickness on your brackets and clearanced the top of the caliper. It all fits nicely now and I only had to run a 3/8 spacer. To be honest, if I were to grind the calipers a bit more, I may be able to get rid of the spacer altogether.

Took some work, but they fit. I still need to make a solid set of shims for the caliper mounting plate. Then work out a couple bugs, but they fit and spin and are dead center of the caliper.

so im guessing that if your front 17" wheel doesn't have that inner lip it should be problem free no?

Yes, exactly. It all depends on the rim. Boss 338 18s would be fine as well. Its just the 17s and these brakes.

Isn't it great to be able to mock up the system first, before you install the spindles.  Saves a lot of eye strain and sore necks from trying to see things under the fender.
