Hey guys, not a mustang question, but the the answers could be useful...bought an 01 Ford Explorer sport for the Kid couple days ago. Looks like its got the gold coolant in it plus the seller added some red stuff couple months ago, anyway, I want to drain it and flush and refill. Picked up a jug of the $$$gold coolant at Carquest and mixed 50/50 w water, then I saw the tag by the resivoir to use the green stuf not gold. So I'm at a delima...do I drain and flush and put the gold stuff in I already bought, or put new green stuff in after the flush? Also, what can I use to flush the mixed crap out of there?....just water or can I put anything else in there to help clean it out? Its got 150,000 miles on it. Thanks

If the gold product you speak of is the FORD gold product, no, you cannot mix it with the green. If it is the "global" gold product, which is a universal antifreeze, you can mix it with the green. The universal antifreezes are normally a "long life" antifreeze that will most likely last longer than your vehicle. Green must be flushed on per manufacturer recommendations.
You mentioned he put a "red" antifreeze in there? If he put dexcool in there, get it out! That product has been the cause of a LOT of problems with cooling systems!

Thanks Kristang. I drained it and refilled it with I think it was Zerex brand...already had opened the container and mixed it so couldnt take it back. Think I'm gonna replace my dexcool in my truck with the green stuff...replaced 2 waterpumps a year apart. Thanks, Jamie
