Door Panel

I took the door panel off in my '67 in order to get at the window mechanism. Is there a secret in getting the panel to fit back on properly? Those silly little clips are a real PITA.  E.

Re: Door Panel

Be ginger with it get it in place use the palm of your hand and gently tap on the head of the clip and presto. Just don't go to fast take your time

Re: Door Panel

They are a PITA!! I ended up drilling holes around the edge(8) and used some little stainless steel phillips head screws to hold the panel flat to the door. The screws have that little decorative washer under them and  I THINK it looks pretty trick.

Re: Door Panel

The trick is to be sure the clips are facing the right direction so they go directly into the holes in the door.  They can rotate around when the panel is off.  Be careful because the head of the clip can damage the visible part of the panel if too much force is applied, and if the clip is not aligned properly.

If you do not know which way they should face, make a paper template of the holes in the door, then put the template on the back side of the door to show where the holes are.  Align the clips to that template.

Re: Door Panel

I kinda like the 6sally6 option. I have another bag of clips coming from CJ Pony and if I continue to struggle with them it will be time to get out the drill. I think with this - Ford didn't have a better idea.  E.

Re: Door Panel

The clips work quite well if you take the time to orient them correctly and don't force anything.  I know my driver door has some issues with the panel not installed perfectly.  REWORK !

Re: Door Panel

I found that replacing the clips with new ones made the door panels very easy to put back on.  They are not very expensive.

Re: Door Panel

If you look/feel to ensure BOTH tips of the clip have entered the hole, before you give it a palm slap, they should pop right in with no problem.

If you have a helper to steady it, I try to get all of them "started" with both tips in the hole, before I knock any in place.

The condition of the clip makes all the difference. If they are squashed or distorted, replace them first.

Re: Door Panel

The clips could be a problem aside from alignment. The clips could be slightly rusty. I can install my panel 3mins max and that's making sure I take my time alighting them.

Same here... the only time the clips give me a problem is when trying to remove the door panel without tearing the particle board door panel.

Re: Door Panel

Go slow alight the clips as you go. Or take a clip off press on it see how they have to be to go in easy then do the same with them on the panel

Re: Door Panel

OK, I received a bag of new clips. I'm having the door (interior) painted so it will be a week or so before I get to try to put the panel back on. Patience is not one of my strong suits but I'll try to work with the clips before I resort to the 6sally6 technique. E.

Re: Door Panel

I just removed one of my door panels. One clip pulled out of the panel because it was a little thicker and MUCH stiffer than all the others. It was very hard to get it out of the door, even with tools.
