    Which pinion snubber for my 65?

    My 65 FB originally came with an 8", so it has the rubber snubber in the bracker on the body.  Now it has a 9" from a Lincoln Versailles (w/ upgraded brakes thanks to Steve).  I'm rebuilding the traction lok and am picking up a detroit locker this weekend just in case I want to swap it in in the future.  So I have to figure out what to do about the pinion snubber.  Here are some possibilities I've come up with:

    1. Drill out the spot welds on the stock snubber housing from the 8", remove it, and replace it with the one for the 9".  Then buy a repro snubber and bracket and bolt it to the pinion bearing housing for the 9".

    2. Leave the 8" snubber bracket on the body, and maybe weld a plate on it to accomodate the repro snubber and bracket for the 9"

    3. Go with some kind of aftermarket adjustable snuber? 

    Something else?  Thanks.

    This is what I did on my 66 with 9".  I removed the factory rubber pinion snubber, leaving only the plate in place.  I went on ebay and found a good used 9" snubber that bolts to the pinion bearing bolts.  The two mate perfectly.
    I would rather have an old grimy original Ford part than aftermarket on something like that.

    Money you enjoy wasting is NOT wasted money... unless your wife finds out.

    Thanks - did you do anything to the original snubber plate to cover up the hole or anything? 

    How often do you think the snubber actually gets used on your car?

    No, the hole is not a problem.
    From the looks of the wear pattern, it gets used.

    Money you enjoy wasting is NOT wasted money... unless your wife finds out.
