Differential - 8" Center Chunk

I remember seeing posts a while back about/from a board member that sold the center chunks for the early ford differentials.  I can't find the source with searches - does anyone remember who that is?

When it comes time to put in an automatic 4 speed overdrive transmission for my car, I'm going to need to change my rear axle ratio from 2:80 to something more like 3:50

If I've got a 300-or-so horsepower 5.0 in front of it, do you think it's reasonable to just replace the internals on my 8"?   Or is it almost mandatory to go to a beefier unit like a 9" or 8.8"?

I'm not going to be flogging her every day at drag races, but I don't want to have to worry every time I step on the gas either.

Just replace the chunk with track-loc & gears. 3.25-3.50. The 8 isnt a real weak sister and will do just fine for an automatic and even 375HP

I have two 8" center sections, the original one that came in my 65 housing, and one from a mid 70's Mustang II.  There is significantly more cast iron webbing on the MII center section above the pinion yoke, than on the 65 part.  I bought the MII unit as it had 3:55's in it, and noticed the better casting, after the UPS driver rang my doorbell.

Yup, TimC the post 67 8" housings had extra webbing added, and would be the better choice for a Hi-Po build. My point was more that most all 8" chunks will stand up to 375HP especially when it's coming from an automatic trans vs a high rev clutch dump.
