Automatic Fox 5.0

Just looking for some opinions, while I have redone and built several old fords, 2 - 66's and 1 - 68 mustang along with others. I have converted all the mustangs to 5 speeds, mainly because it was the most cost effective way to gain overdrive, but it did make them more fun to drive. I don't have any real experience with any type of performance automatic.

I have been looking for a clean 85 fox GT for a while, I like the fact that it was the first year of the roller and the last of the carburetor, and I like the interior of those cars. Well I have found a really clean. No rust (rare for this area) 85 with no modifications, but it's an automatic. I know I could convert it to a five speed, but is anyone out there running an AOD from that ERA and happy with it. I know there have been times in traffic and at cruise -ins and car shows that an auto would be a nice relief.

Re: Automatic Fox 5.0

Try it...you might like it.  Really, a little variety wouldn't be bad, right? You can laways get something else if you just dont get used to it.

Edit to add: Stock  AOD's from that era tend to need some upgrading.  I had a 30th Anniversary T-Bird with an AOD that was a problem until I found a real transmission guy to work some magic on it..

Re: Automatic Fox 5.0

From what I recall one of the biggest things that needs upgrading is the input shaft.  They make a heavy duty and they say they're bullitt proof.
