Several years back, I replaced a marine 302 2bbl with a 5.0 roller cam motor out of a 2001 Ford Explorer. The motor was a 35k salvage yard motor with original spark plugs. The heads had never been off. I stripped off the fuel injection and used a 600 cfm 4160 Holley Marine carburetor. I replaced the FI cam with a reground '69 351 Windsor cam profile.
As you might know, the last of the Explorer SBF's used the GT40P heads. These were hot motors with the best factory heads ever produced.
Today, I had the boat out on the Columbia River with a few friends. They were all amazed at the power of that motor. Since I installed it, I have still never run it wide open. It scares me.
REMEMBER!!! When posting a question about your Mustang or other Ford on this forum, BE SURE to tell us what it is, what year, engine, etc so we have enough information to go on. |
